Imagine yourself at Woodlands, far away from the crowds, the noise and the bustle…. Drive up to the warm old Victorian house, pull the old-fashioned door bell and feel your shoulders relax as you are welcomed in. Put your feet up in the comfortable lounge in front of the open fire and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with home-made cake or wash away the dust of your journey with a glass of local ale in the bar. Picture Ireby, a traditional farming village nestling amongst the hills on the northern edge of the Lake District National Park. Step back in time and enjoy a totally unspoilt area of Cumbria where the rush hour traffic consists of the cows on their way to be milked or a flock of sheep being driven along the lanes. Our seven bedrooms are all en-suite and are comfortably and tastefully furnished, many with period furnishings in keeping with the Victorian house. We believe that high quality mattresses, bed linen and fluffy towels are essential for your comfort. Hospitality trays include home-made shortbread or biscuits, a range of teas, fresh coffee and mineral water. All rooms have remote control colour TV and hairdryers. First floor rooms have views across the hills or pleasant aspects overlooking the fields or the garden with a glimpse of Binsey in the distance. Disabled access The ground floor rooms are suitable for guests with limited mobility and for wheelchair users. There is level access from the car park to these rooms and to the reception hall, bar, lounges and dining room in the main house. The en-suite bathrooms have ample space to allow easy access for wheelchairs and there are handrails by the toilet and over the bath. We have a battery powered bath seat to assist with bathing for guests who wish to use it. The ground floor rooms meet level 1 of the new mobility access requirements. We welcome well behaved dogs in some of our ground floor rooms at a small extra charge but, for the comfort of other guests, we do not allow dogs (with the exception of guide dogs) into the public rooms of the house. |

Near Howe Self Catering |
|
![]() |
Near Howe occupies a stunning elevated position on a tree lined knoll, giving it glorious views out over arguably some of the most delightful countryside in the Lake District National Park. Originally built as a farmstead about 180 years ago, Near Howe remained the farmhouse to the surrounding farm land until the end of the 1960s when it was converted to a guest house. Over the years, the former farm buildings which surrounded the delightful open courtyard, have been skilfully converted to form five spacious and uniquely appointed self catering holiday cottages, which retain much of their original charm and character. Set amid carefully landscaped, yet easily maintained gardens and grounds, there is ample car parking and space for visitors to relax in a setting second to none for its peace and tranquillity. Near Howe lies at the end of a delightful driveway across rolling Cumbrian farm land, but is within very easy reach of the A66, midway between the lovely Cumbrian market town of Penrith and Keswick-on-Derwentwater - The Queen of The Lakes. Equally close at hand is Ullswater, with Pooley Bridge at the North and Glenridding to the South. In the opposite direction lies the picturesque village of Mungrisdale and further at 'Back o'Skidda' is Caldbeck, the former home of famous huntsman John Peel. All of this delightful countryside helps bring tourists to the area over an ever increasing season. |

Riverside Tourer Park |

Preliminary, the site is a Caravan Club CL. Our one acre lawned site is just out of the Hamlet of Millhouse, adjacent to a quiet unclassified road, being secluded and well away from noise of main roads. The Dominating River Caldew and its tributary beck (Gillcambon), are completely open and accessible to the site, and form over half of the perimeter. Although the CL is only a 5 van site, we have 10 well spaced pitches in total, all with electric hook-ups, providing our clients the choice of hard standing (5) or well drained grass (5) which allows plenty of rotation, with very little pitch-wear. Mains water, waste and chemical disposal, W.C. and FREE shower are all laid on, to a high standard. Discreet dusk to dawn lighting is provided over the site, and we have a dedicated (flood lit) river edge dog walk. The Millrace Park Due to ever increasing popularity of the CL, we obtained planning permission in 2003 to provide extra pitches. Unwilling to alter the CL in any way which may endanger its character, we have developed our adjoining land in almost mirror image of the existing, with 6 pitches, (4 hard standing and 2 grass) all with electric hook-ups, with separate W.C. and FREE shower, plus all of the above mentioned amenities. Again, we have opened up the stretch of river bordering this land to provide complete access to site users. The Mill Dam, (feeding the Saw Mill), use to be in this stretch of the river, and the Millrace flowed through the lower edge of this land, hence our naming. |
