Orchard Cottage offers guest accommodation in 3 en-suite rooms (2 double bedded & 1 flexible double or twin bedded), all rooms are on the ground floor and offer tea/coffee making facilities and hairdryers. Breakfast is served in the light spacious dining room and the choices range from cereals and fruit to full English breakfast, followed by toast with homemade jam or marmalade and honey produced by our own bees. After a hard day walking relax in the comfortable guest lounge. As the weather is known to be slightly damp in the Lake District we offer clothes drying facilities and also have a secure area for cycle storage.
For people walking the Cumbria Way we offer a transport service if you book 2 nights with us. ie:
Walk from Ulverston - Coniston Arrive at Orchard Cottage for 1st night Next day walk to Dungeon Ghyll where you are picked up and brought back to Orchard Cottage for a 2nd night The following morning you are returned to Dungeon Ghyll to resume your walk.
We can offer similar packages from Lowick and Ambleside please enquire when booking. Also available are packed lunches.

The Royal Oak is not just any old inn, this is where you will find comfort, relaxation and personal service in a very special inn at a fantastic price.
We have three rooms at the Royal Oak which are all light, airy with exposed beams and oozing comfort. Each room has colour TV, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, complimentary tea, coffee with cookies and toiletries from the London based Gilchrist and Soames in your bathroom.
We have put local bottled water next to your bed and not forgetting the famous Kendal mint cake.
The Coniston is situated at the front of the inn and sleeps two people with a four poster bed. This room has WC and Shower.
The Hawkshead is also at the front of the inn and sleeps three people with a double and a single bed. This room has WC, Bath and Shower.
The Ulswater is the biggest of our three rooms and is situated at the back of the inn. This is the family room which sleeps four people, with a double bed and two singles. At an extra charge another bed can be placed in the room on request. This room has a WC, Bath and Shower.
Breakfast is included and is served between 8.30 and 10.00. Enjoy a selection of cereals, chilled juice, fresh fruit and freshly made tea and coffee before our great Royal Oak full English, or if you fancy something lighter why not go for scrambled or poached eggs on toast or simple kippers topped with butter.
Don’t fancy facing the world too early? Why not enjoy breakfast in bed. Just let us know the night before what you want and the time you want it and we will give you a gentle knock and bring it right to your bed side.
