The Coach House Guest House |
|
![]() |
The Coach House was built around 1875 and was originally two Grooms cottages for the Manor House - Enyeat Manor - where carriages drew up in the cobbled courtyard and horses rested. One of the original rings used for tying horses is still in the kitchen. In the late 1920's, the cottages became one and in 1934 were sold for £39! Later a double garage and room above were built. This garage is now the new kitchen and office, and the room above is the large ensuite bedroom. |

The Wheatsheaf Inn (Beetham) |
|
![]() |
The Wheatsheaf has been welcoming guests since 1609. Initially a farmhouse, the lady of the house provided meals to local farm labourers and the tradition of becoming a local hostelry grew from that time. Later, the Wheatsheaf became a coaching stop en route from Lancaster to Carlisle. The old A6 runs directly outside the front door with the bridge over the river Bela (pronounced Beela) becoming an important crossing point for traders. Kendal is only a fifteen minute drive away and Windermere thirty. Heading away from the Lakes, we are only eight miles from the Yorkshire Moors. Head out to Ingleton for a pleasant two hour walk around the waterfalls; stunning after a rainy day. On your way back to Beetham, stop off at Kirkby Lonsdale. Devil's bridge is a chilling monument reported to be the oldest in England. According to old folklore, you can see the Devil's handprint on the bridge wall. From the Church in Kirkby, follow the signs to Ruskin's view. Ruskin stated that the view is the best in England - how times change, go and have a look and see what you think!!!
