The Highgate Hotel is a historic Grade II* listed town house rebuilt in 1769 incorporated an earlier building. Located near the centre of Kendal, it was built for the town's first physician, but is now a small comfortable family run bed and breakfast with homely atmosphere. It is the oldest and most historic place to stay in Kendal, but now has modern amenities, whilst retaining lots of distinctive character. It is well located for local amenities, fine walks, and visiting the superb countryside of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks as well as the little known beautiful wooded limestone country of the nearby coast. Bedrooms are en-suite, have television, tea/coffee making facilities and hairdryer. Family room and cots are avaliable. There is also a cosy guest lounge. The hotel has a private car park to the rear. A small secluded garden and sunny patio are available for guests use. Sorry but no smoking or pets allowed in the hotel. |

The Barbon Inn |

The Barbon Inn lies in the delightful village of Barbon, nestling in the Lune valley, deep between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Originally built in the 17th century as a coaching Inn and recently tastefully refurbished retaining all the character you would expect to find in a building over 300 years old. All of our ten rooms are en-suite with baths/showers and white fluffy towels. Sleep in our luxury "Sealy" beds with crisp cotton sheets you won't want to get out of until the smell of freshly brewed coffee and grilled bacon wafts from the kitchen. Eat in the Oak Room Restaurant with 17th century oak settles and chairs, polished oak and mahogany tables. A log fire completes the ambiance. Our menus feature the excellent local produce on our doorstep. Drink in the Coach Lamp Bar by an open log fire, locally brewed beers are a speciality or choose some wine from our personally selected wine list.
