The Dower House is a delightful, late Victorian Country House built on the site of a medieval packhorse inn. The house stands in over six acres of natural wooded grounds and gardens, with tumbling streams and an abundance of wildlife. It is surrounded by spectacular coastal and mountain scenery, nestled among which you will find interesting villages, historic buildings, stunning wildlife and much, much more. Here at High Duddon we're on the doorstep of some of the best walking country in the land; the quiet fells of Dunnerdale, the picturesque Yewdale and Coniston Fells and the spectacular and challenging peaks of Wasdale. Overlooking the Duddon Estuary, we are only a fifteen minute drive from expansive, golden, sandy beaches and one of the region's top water-skiing centres. Accommodation at the Dower House may be either self-catering or bed and breakfast with all the four separate apartments available on this basis. Apartments have either one or two bedrooms, lounge/dining room a kitchen and a bathroom with both shower and bath. All are comfortably furnished and fully equipped for your stay whichever tariff you choose. For self-catering guests the kitchens are fully fitted with an electric cooker, fridge/freezer (freezer compartment in Orchard Corner), electric kettle and toaster, and ample food storage space. Bed and breakfast guests have full tea and coffee-making facilities and use of the fridge. All the apartments have colour TV, radio and coal-effect electric fires. Cots and high chairs are available by prior arrangement. The gardens and grounds are for the use of guests and we have a games room with pool, darts and table tennis. Access to the apartments is through the grand main hall which contains a superb fireplace with carved wood surround. Off the hall is a large, comfortable Residents' Lounge/Dining room with wood-burning stove which overlooks the lawn and water garden. There is ample parking space for guests' cars at the top of our long, secluded driveway. Each Apartment is individually designed to provide spacious and comfortable accommodation for our guests and to take advantage of the fine views of the gardens and surrounding countryside. We are a non-smoking establishment, and sorry, we cannot take pets. |

Corner Cottage is a cosy fully equipped 1 bedroom cottage in the old market town of Broughton- in- Furness. It could not be better placed for access than it is to traditional shops of butcher, baker, green grocer and a small general provisions store together with a Post office and Bank all no more than a few minutes walk away. Oak beamed pubs with open fires are close by to serve a selection of locally brewed fine ales and appetising meals of local produce. Within sight, and a short distance away is the open countryside leading to the beauty of the Furness Fells with high and low walking and cycling trails plus the unspoiled Duddon Valley of wooded slopes and clear river waters and the marsh and sands of the Duddon Estuary whose flora and fauna has been designated as an Area of Special Scientific Interest. Nowhere is more than a comfortable travelling distance from Corner Cottage. The lakes, fells and coastline of the South, West, and North areas of the Lake District and Cumbria can be easily reached. Broughtons Tourist Information Centre provides details of events, shows and attractions taking place throughout the region. The Cottage, sleeping 2, is a home from home retreat; a bijou residence for a romantic break or a convenient base for walkers, climbers, and cyclists, or, just an away from it all “put your feet up” pause from a busy life. It comprises of a ground floor double bed-room, a first floor lounge/dining area and a bathroom with bath and shower attachment. Gas central heating, D.V.D/ C.D. players and colour T.V. Washing machine and drier. Bed linen and towels provided. Travel cot and “put you up” bed available. Open all year, long or short breaks. Gas/ electricity included in rental. Five luxury holiday cottages, sleeping from 2-17 people, close to Coniston Water and Ulverston, all beautifully decorated to a 4* standard. The cottages are surrounded by farmland with mountains behind and wonderful views of the coast (Duddon Estuary) to the west. You can walk straight from the door and explore the fells endlessly! Ashlack is a working farm and in April and May the fields are littered with lambs and calves and also a few foals. It is a perfect place for children to explore the woods, rivers, meadowland and the coast. All our holiday cottages come fully equipped and have: full central heating, dishwasher, electric fan-assisted oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dryer. Also included in the rental price are bed linen, towels, heating and electricity. Each holiday cottage has a private garden, plenty of car parking and a barbecue. | Thornthwaite is a traditional family run farm set amidst superb scenery in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. We offer a range of self-catering accommodation. The estate overlooks the beautiful Woodland Valley, the whole 500 acres can be explored by our guests. We also have 60 acres of ancient woodland and have received an award for our environmental policies. The area is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with wildlife including deer, foxes and badgers. Little Galey (Sleeps 4) A 17th century Lake District semi-detached cottage. Originally part of the main house for the Thornthwaite Estate, with lots of character set in its own secluded garden with patio and garden furniture, ideal for barbeques! The modern Kitchen/dining area contains an electric cooker and oven, microwave, washer/dryer and fridge freezer. There is a dining table that seats 4 people. The large lounge has an excellent log fire and ample comfortable seating. The television has Free View and a VHS/DVD player. There are two bedrooms, one double and one twin. They have recently been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard using high quality furnishings in solid oak. High quality bed linen is also provided. |

Woodland Cottage (Sleeps 4) A recently refurbished nineteenth century cottage in a style typical of many in the lake district. The cottage was originally used in the production of local lake district cheese’s until the 1920’s when it became a cottage for estate workers. There is a small garden to the front with garden furniture and barbeque provided. The lounge area has recently been refurbished and features oak flooring and a traditional Lakeland slate fireplace and real wood burner.The wide screen television has free view and DVD. The kitchen area contains a fitted kitchen including electric cooker and oven, microwave, washer/dryer and fridge freezer. There are two upstairs bedrooms, both of which have recently been refurbished to a very high standard using high quality furnishings in solid oak. High quality bed linen is also provided. |

Stable Cottage (Sleeps 2) As the name suggests this cottage was originally a stable for the estates heavy horse’s whilst they where being re-shod in the adjacent blacksmiths workshop. It has recently been converted to a very high standard into a self catering cottage. The lounge & Kitchen area features a new solid oak fitted kitchen with all of the conveniences you would expect; dishwasher, electric oven with halogen hob and microwave etc, the whole property features a solid oak floor with under floor heating, and high quality lounge and dining furniture. A solid ash spiral staircase leads to the upper floor. There is a flat screen television with Free view. The bedroom again features a solid oak floor with under floor heating and high quality oak double bed and furnishings, a balcony that overlooks the properties garden. |

Blacksmiths Cottage (Sleeps 4) This cottage was once the Blacksmiths workshop, where until recently his forge remained, a sturdy building typical of the style of many in the Lake District made of the local Burlington and Coniston slate. With excellent panoramic views of the Old Man of Coniston and its breath-taking surrounding fells, Dow Crag, Walna Scar and Swirl How. The lounge and Kitchen features a new solid oak fitted kitchen with all of the conveniences you would expect; dishwasher, electric oven with halogen hob and microwave etc, the whole property features a solid oak floor with under floor heating, and high quality lounge and dining furniture. Woodsmans Cottage (Sleeps 6) This building was once the heart of the estates forestry operations and used to house a large circular saw for processing trees felled in the woods into planks. This large building has now been converted into opulent holiday accommodation for up to 6 people. There are truly magnificent views through a huge window looking across to the Lake District and Coniston fells including many of the most famous peaks, Coniston Old Man and Dow Crag, Walna Scar, Swirl How etc. The lounge & Kitchen area features a new solid oak fitted kitchen with all of the conveniences you would expect, dishwasher, electric oven and halogen hob, fridge/freezer and microwave etc, the whole property features a solid oak floor with under floor heating, with high quality lounge and dining furniture.
